Rhonda Byrne published in 2006 the film The Secret wherein she emphasized thinking about what each person wants to obtain, but also to infuse the thought with the maximum possible amount of emotion. She claims the combination of thought and feeling is what attracts the desire. The Secret says your subconscious mind can control everything that happens around you, including both positive experiences, like having someone call you from miles away, and negative experiences, like death. The Byrne underlines the power of the subconscious mind by asking the reader to take full control of these thoughts, in order to achieve things in life, with the mind, as much as with action. Another similar book is James Redfield's The Celestine Prophecy, which says reality can be manifested by man. Man and the universe have a force of attraction between them similar to a magnetic attraction. The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy, says readers can achieve seemingly impossible goals by learning how to bring the mind itself under control. The Power by Rhonda Byrne, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, and The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle are similar. While personal testimonies claim the secret and the law to have worked for them, a number of skeptics have criticized Rhonda Byrne's film and book. The New York Times Book Review called the secret pseudoscience and an "illusion of knowledge".
When things get tough you’ve got two choices: you can either fold or you can keep going. Lucky people are very resilient. I remember talking to one lucky person that had fallen down some stairs and broken his leg. I said, “I bet you don’t consider yourself quite so lucky now.” He said the last time he went to a hospital he met a nurse and they fell in love. Now the two of them are happily married twenty-five years later. He said, “It was the best thing that ever happened to me… So, yeah, things can look bad now, but the long term effect of this might be very, very positive.” That’s a very resilient attitude. Lucky people tend to have that sort of approach.
Stop looking at the horizons in front of you and feeling overwhelmed. Look at the horizon behind you. It’s just as far and infinite. Think about how far you’ve travelled already. And, allow yourself a small tear of pride. Give yourself a pat on the back for the efforts you’ve made, the roads you’ve travelled. The universe thanks you for being part of this amazing story we’re all creating together.
Many people turn to a greater power to help them increase their luck. Some say a prayer before they start to enter sweepstakes, asking God to help them win what they need or to help the prize go to the person who needs it most. Others feel that asking God for specific prizes is inappropriate but ask instead for the strength and the positive attitude they need not give up and to keep entering sweepstakes.
Visualize. Visualizing is an effective tool when it comes to attracting good luck and fortune. When you picture yourself experiencing a desired outcome, you work out the steps to overcome any obstacles. It motivates you toward your goals and gives you energy to take action. It can also give you new ideas and new ways to achieve your goals. For instance: If you want to be a successful singer, visualize yourself as one. Imagine yourself singing at a concert with fans all around you. It will raise your confidence. If you find visualizing things difficult, practice it. Close your eyes and try to see it in detail in your mind.
14) Anecdotal Evidence: Evidence that the LOA is an effective way of attaining goals is anecdotal, non-scientific and self-reported. This fact does not prove it doesn’t exist. But closely scrutinize whether you want to invest time, money and energy into something that is ineffective and potentially harmful. People are much more likely to publish successes than failures. We also practice apophenia (the belief that there is meaning behind random data) when we focus on coincidences without regard to the much greater number of times that we do not experience coincidences. How many times did you think of that person and they didn’t call you? Of the two thousand people I thought of today, only two actually called. That’s not a great percentage – 0.1%. But if I think of it in terms of the people that called we get a different story. I thought of Bert and he called me – that’s 100%!
You claim that "positive thoughts always resulting in positive things" is not the basis of the LOA. In part you are correct. The foundational basis in science, as I alluded to in the article was that thought stuff particles travel through ether (not air) and interact with formless stuff to create whatever it is that you are thinking about. This was how "the law" started.
"It's simple to say, but acting generously can immensely impact your opportunities, both in business and life. Alter your thinking from, 'What you can get out of a new relationship?' into 'How can I help this new connection?' Helping three new people is likely to attract better luck than attempting to extract favors from those new individuals. You'll be amazed at how karma can reward a mindset like this in the long run."
Show up and always be prepared. Have you ever noticed that the luckiest people at work seem to be the ones who show up prepared for meetings? They plan projects and develop timelines. They work well with other people and they always seem to have loads of energy. They are optimistic and confident because they are prepared. If you want to be one of the lucky ones at work who gets a promotion or a regular pay increase, do your homework. It’s no accident that the more prepared you are to tackle a challenge, the luckier you’ll be at successfully reaching your goals.
Now that you understand the Law of Attraction, you can harness this power in your own life. A first step would be to test your own habitual thought patterns to see whether you tend toward optimism or pessimism and learn more about changing habitual patterns of thought. Additionally, this article on using the Law of Attraction can help you make many positive changes in your life. Now is the time to start; your future is in your hands!
Positive thoughts lead to positive attitudes and positive behaviors. Positive people have more friends, better relationships, better jobs, get more promotions, are healthier and have improved immune systems. This is positive psychology, not a metaphysical phenomenon. It forms the basis of a Principle of Attraction in which Like tends to and often attracts Like...but not always.
"A diplomat, journalist, and economist, Carr was the furthest thing that one could imagine from a starry-eyed spiritual dreamer or a promulgator of superstition. Carr eschewed all forms of ponderous or magical language — yet he also believed in a clear and concrete set of methods for attracting and building upon the fortuitous chance occurrences that crisscross our daily lives. He was an ardent believer that good ethics bring “good luck.” "
Those people who are seen to have good luck expect to find a solution that will help them overcome their problems. They fully understand that if there is a problem, that a solution can and will be found — it’s just a matter of time. As a result, they remain vigilant, they persist and work through obstacles, while all-the-while scouting for opportunities that could provide them with the answers they are searching for.
Individuals who have the luck of the Irish tend to visualize what they want in their mind before achieving it in the real world. They understand that whatever they can conceptualize within their imaginations, they can create in the physical world. Furthermore, visualization enables them to prepare for problems that have not yet occurred — that the ordinary person would never have imagined.
"When you're building your company it's also important to meet people where ever you go and keep them in your network. As your network grows, so will your business. When your network is full of people who have your best interest in mind, there's no stopping the success you'll garner. You never know who may end up becoming your client one day. I also believe that if you give out good vibes, you'll receive it in return. Also, employee relations is key to a successful business. Happy employees produce excellent work, which results in better business. Call it luck, I call it strategy."
The concept of manifesting destiny, which rests on the Law of Attraction, is the idea that investing positive energy and belief in any desired outcome will allow a person to bring the outcome to fruition. In other words, you have the power to get what you want simply by believing in it. Sound a little crazy? Maybe. But if people swear by it, it's worth at least exploring, right?
After finishing this wonderful book, I'm thankful for the refresher course on using this law to help me attain the life I desire. One of the first pages describes the definition of the Law of Attraction. "I attract to my life whatever I give my attention, energy and focus to, whether positive or negative." This great reminder is so valuable in refocusing your efforts even if you are having success in life. The author's "observation cycle" is valuable when you realize your present life is not going well (enough) and you are causing more of the same problems if you are focused on your present circumstances. I like to think about the cycle if your life is going well too, make sure you keep focusing on the great things and don't expect bad things to happen soon. Great work on the chapter of "allowing" success in your life too. The speed of the law of attraction depends on how fast you allow the beautiful things that life represents into your life. Lastly you must have faith in the universe to allow it to bring the things you want into your life without exactly knowing how they will get meshed in your present circumstances. This last thougth is difficult but have faith and you will get there. In summary, an outstanding guide the Law.
